My exhibit at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, The Dalles, Oregon closed on September 8, 2010 after a four-year run.
An exhibit of 18 color photographs by Oregon resident Chris Carvalho, Columbia Gorge: Our Precious Land shows the landscape and life of the area in vibrant color and perspectives that bring the viewer into each image, awakening one’s sense of wonder. Pictures on display range in size from 16"x20" to 24"x30".
In these photographs the beauty of water, flowers, earth, and sky come together in a meditation on the value of this ancient and endangered place.
There will be a number of events associated with the exhibit including photo workshops, check here or at the museum's web site for dates and times. In addition to many outstanding exhibits, the Discovery Center has a cafe, museum store, and outdoor walking trails. It overlooks the Columbia River and is close to local hotels and recreational activities. During the winter months the location might be windy or cold, so be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. It can also be sunny and dry when it's raining in Portland, making for a pleasant outing. Click here for current weather conditions at the museum.
Note: During the exhibit's extended run it is located in the museum's board room, which is occasionally reserved for private events. To be sure of viewing all the photographs, please contact the museum before visiting.

Driving Directions:
From the Portland area, take I-84 east to The Dalles. Take exit 82 toward the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center/Wasco County Museum. At the end of the offramp, turn right (south), then right again onto US 30. Go 1.3 miles and turn right on Discovery Drive. Take Discovery Drive approximately three tenths of a mile to the museum.
From locations in Oregon east of The Dalles, take I-84 west to The Dalles, take exit 82, and turn left (south) at the end of the offramp. Go across the overpass and turn right onto US 30. Go 1.3 miles and turn right on Discovery Drive. Take Discovery Drive approximately three tenths of a mile to the museum.
From locations in Washington north of The Dalles, cross the Highway 197 bridge going south, then take the right turn after the bridge to merge onto I-84 westbound. In approximately 5 miles take exit 82, and turn left at the end of the offramp. Go across the overpass and turn right onto US 30. Go 1.3 miles and turn right on Discovery Drive. Take Discovery Drive approximately three tenths of a mile to the museum.
