I am not a deeply religious person, but rather a spiritual one. My experience has been that some religious leaders distort faith and spirituality to serve a pursuit of power and as a way to set people against each other instead of bringing them together. For that reason, I have a healthy skepticism of organized religion. I prefer to trust my personal relationship with a spiritual guide as a way of navigating the events of life. I do believe that there is a creative force or being that is responsible for the gift of life and the beauty of nature. As I do more photography, I find the story of creation takes on a deeper meaning for me. In the story of creation in the Bible's book of Genesis, verse 9 of chapter 1 reads, "Then God said, 'Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear'; and it was so." It was the third day of creation. When I made this photograph in the Columbia Gorge, there was something about it that I could not grasp at first. The water had a supernatural quality about it, glowing and filled with life. When I realized this, I saw the connection to the story of creation and thus the title. I hope your spiritual guide leads you to amazing places, and fills your life with nature's glory.
